The Nature Trail and the Munjac Chase

IMG_2942

I started off with a sedate wander around Park woods with the big camera trying to get some pictures of early spring. Hence, Billy came too.

We surveyed the on-going work of the new nature reserve we are helping to create.

The contractors have laid some 750 meters of hedging saplings to create a barrier on the south side.

We’ve also cleared an area around a small pond, which is more or less wet all year round. We’ve created some dead hedging around the pond area and some natural seating. We are going to create a nature trail that meanders in and out of the wood, highlighting some interesting areas such as the Oxlips, Early purple orchids and known nesting areas.

I’ll keep you posted on how this goes. I’ve created a new category called Nature Reserve for ease of reference.

On a piece of high ground we noticed a Muntjac wandering across one of the small roads.

With Billy taking the lead, we tracked him to a small bush. When he detected us he made a break back across the road. After taking a quick snap…

…we decided to follow at a run..

… Billy again taking the lead straining at his leash, and pulling me along  despite his small stature.

The Muntjac darted into another bush but thought better of it as he must have spotted us in hot pursuit. He again broke out and followed the fence-line to the west. We decided not to follow on this occasion and stress him out too much.

After a refreshing and well deserved drink and something to eat, we finished off our walk around what will be our nature–reserve and went home.
