Trooper or Troops the best part of 10+yrs working in the Theatre, Television and Concert industry as a rigger, flyman and stage technician before moving to Devon in 2000 to run his own Motorcycle repair business. Sadly after the demise of this business in 2008 Troops moved back to Essex where he began working with young people in the care of local authorities which he finds an exceptionally rewarding job and continues to do to this day.

Troops has always had an interest, love and awe in all things Outdoorsy and Survival and often spending days out on survival/ wild camping weekends, animal and bird watching with friends and family members and teaching himself basic Bushcraft skills.

P1000098

A fortuitous chance meeting in a multi-story car-park in 2008 lead to Troops meeting Pablo, and consequently being founding members of ESSEX OUTBACKS Bushcraft group through the WOODLIFE forum network. This opened up a whole new world of Tracking and related field craft.from which Troops has never looked back.

Now after 4 years plus of hard graft and learning from both PABLO & JP as well as working up from course helper to assistant and then mentor enrolling on the Diploma programme Troops has worked towards becoming a trainee instructor.

Troops also volunteers at least one day a month with the Wilderness Foundation where he passes on Bushcraft knowledge and skills as their Bushcraft Mentor.

As well as his love of Bushcraft Troops is a qualified Residential worker and mechanical engineer. He loves walking holidays in the Lake District and is heavily involved In his other life passion; Motorcycles. He is accompanied almost everywhere by his faithful companion and Essex Outbacks mascot Scout.

He loves reading and cooking and has been lucky enough to experience such things as winter dog sledding in Finland, walking with Wolves, as well as swimming with Dolphins and Manatee in Florida. His Bushcraft ambitions are to go on a month long Canoe safari around Canada in an open canoe and Track Wolves in either Europe or North America.

Pablo served in the British Army for 12 years. There he picked up the rudiments of living off the land, field craft skills and a few survival and tracking skills.

pablo

For most of his service he was a Physical Training Instructor and specialised in expedition leading and adventure training. After leaving the forces, he carried on these survival and wilderness skills as a pastime but related them more to watching wildlife. He uses bushcraft, tracking and field craft skills to get as close as he can to wildlife.

Wildlife and Tracking:

Pablo is a life-long wildlife and tracking enthusiast. He was an instructor with Shadowhawk Tracking School and has travelled to Southern Africa to learn tracking from the Ju'/Hoansi, Southern Africa's indigenous Hunter Gatherer people and expert trackers.

Forensic Tracking:

Pablo's second career was in law enforcement and culminated in him being a senior detective in a UK law enforcement agency. This has given him the background to pursue tracking not just as a past-time but as a professional forensic tracker.

Woodlife Trails (Forensics) can provide Missing Person (MISPERS), Search and Rescue (SAR) and other forensic searching services to agencies wishing to either train personnel or who require such Forensic Tracking Services.

Bushcraft:

She is currently developing her tracking skills but with a twist - she tracks barefoot!

Hannah is a keen chef and cooks up a mean road-kill dinner!

JP has always had a profound interest in the Natural World. As a typical "Essex Country Boy" he immediately took to the world of woodsmen, gamekeepers and local countrymen where he learnt many of his countryside skills like ferreting and rabbiting; skills that are today, sadly, all but forgotton.

His love of wildlife led him to keep numerous pets that included the usual gerbils, hamsters, rats and tropical fish - but expanded to more unusual creatures like tadpoles, newts, racing pigeons and the odd snake. Later additions (much to his parents dismay) included ferrets and tarantulas.

JP Harry

Ferrets led JP to a place for many years on the committee of the Essex Ferret Welfare Society whilst the Tarantulas took him to the committee of the British Tarantula Society (www.thebts.co.uk ) as Welfare Coordinator. Expeditions to Borneo and Sri lanka found him collecting data about spiders and filming natural history footage for National Geographic (JP still keeps Ferrets and Tarantulas to this day).

First Fire

JP learnt many of his bushcraft and survival skills from experience; watching and learning from indigenous people as a result of overseas expeditions. Experience of being a cadet and scout stood him in good stead as he developed into a Bushcraft and Survival instructor for two of the top Bushcraft Schools in the UK  - Bearclaw Bushcraft and Bison Bushcraft.

In 2010 JP teamed up with Pablo to establish Woodlife Trails Ltd, a company specialising in the provision of Bushcraft, Tracking, Natural History and Countryside courses and services.

JP supports small holders associations and charities such as MIND. Using nature and bushcraft as a therapeutic tool he is also a volunteer for Open Door which helps children in care, young offenders and potential offenders to deal with the problems today's society throws at them.

JP is pasionate about educating people about the countryside and the outdoors. He wants to ensure that old countryside skills are not forgotten.

"Together with Pablo and the Woodlife Trails Team…

… We will show you how ..."
