talks

Woodlife Trails will visit your school or organisation. We will bring with us our popular table of exhibits which includes Natural History artefacts such as animal skulls, bones, skins, feeding signs, scat, and other interesting objects designed to educate not just youngsters but people of every age.

IMGA0996

Our aim is to heighten awareness of the Natural World and help people get physically closer to inhabitants of the woods.

IMGA0105

The exhibits are designed to be touched and felt by the audience thereby heightening the learning.

IMGA0111

We also bring along our high-powered microscope to allow people to see objects in close detail.

IMGA0014

Our owl pellet box is very popular. Youngster’s spend literally hours picking out the small mammal bones, separating them from the pellet.

As well as showing you our exhibits, we can take you for a woodland walk in your own or nearby woods to show you what you may be missing. We will help you identify plants, trees and tell you how they can be used. We will give you a few tips and tricks to help you observe the wildlife in your area by introducing you to the tracks and signs the animals leave behind.

We are able to give presentations on nearly any subject involving the outdoors such as bushcraft, survival skills, wild-camping, wildlife observation, the natural world in general or specific subjects such as animal and human tracking, wildlife observation or JP's specialist interest, arachnology.

This year's talk by Pablo is entitled "How Close Do You Want To Go? - Getting close to Wildlife." Pablo uses PowerPoint including his own amazing footage of wildlife to describe how we can use our senses and field-craft techniques to get closer to Wildlife. This is ideal for wildlife photographers, stalkers, rangers, wardens, or conservation groups / social groups interested in wildlife and tracking.

Please contact us directly at info@woodlife.co.uk to discuss your requirements. Our daily rate for visits and talks is approximately £150-00 per day excluding travelling costs.

TV

Woodlife Trails will provide TV production companies with woodland & wilderness awareness or Wildlife, Tracking, Bushcraft  & nature advice. We will  provide advice on how to track and get closer to wildlife. This will include training your camera crews.

Woodlife Trails has already provided Red House TV commissioned by Channel 4 with an informative insight into the urban fox, challenging people's prejudices and perceptions and talking to occupants of houses with fox "problems".

In November 2010 the crew followed JP and Pablo as they tracked foxes in various urban gardens, providing evidence of the fox's presence and correctly identifying routes in and out and interpreting behaviour from the signs left behind.  They also identified the reasons for the fox's presence in the garden and gave advice on camera to the occupants on how to deter the fox without causing the fox harm.

In June 2011, Pablo and JP were interviewed at the Bushcraft Show in the Lake District for an education programme made on behalf of Lancaster County Council. They explained about the importance of outdoor activities and a holistic approach to reconnecting with nature in the education of children, especially related to perceived risk versus benefits.

That’s Show Business

No sooner are we back from the Naturefest than we pack up again for a long trek north to the Lake District for the Bushcraft Show.

IMGA0090

The first two days of the Naturefest were incredibly windy, but our new style Parazebo stood up to the wind very well. Just as well because I was sleeping inside it!

As the wind died down and the sun came out, so did the visitors and we had a constant stream of people interested in our Natural History exhibits which is growing almost daily.

IMGA0087

We took folk out into the small woods and identified the many tracks, signs insects and other species that most people miss when out for a walk in the woods.

IMGA0089

The forecast for the Bushcraft Show is good – so hopefully there will be a few people visiting the stand and taking an interest in our own unique aspect on tracking and bushcraft.

If you’re going to the show, drop in and see JP or me.
